Respect for Students’ Time and Work-Life Balance
In our research group, we firmly believe that a successful research career is built not only on academic achievements but also on personal well-being and a balanced life. Research is a demanding profession, and without proper care for one’s mental and physical health, it can easily lead to stress and burnout. That’s why we consciously nurture an environment where every team member feels respected, supported, and valued, both as a researcher and as an individual. We actively encourage our students and researchers to maintain a healthy balance between their research responsibilities and personal life. While we value hard work, sincerity, and dedication, we also understand the importance of spending time with family, pursuing hobbies, engaging in sports, self-care, and rest. Our approach ensures that no one feels overburdened or pressured to compromise their personal space for professional commitments. I personally emphasize this culture during group meetings and one-on-one discussions. If anyone feels overwhelmed, they are encouraged to speak openly, and necessary adjustments to workloads or timelines are made when genuinely needed. I believe in respecting students’ holidays, sports activities, and personal plans whenever possible, fostering a space where personal milestones and celebrations are valued just as much as academic achievements. I myself make it a point, whenever possible, to visit places like sport complex or join the team for informal outings, enjoying those moments together. This practice not only boosts morale and productivity but also helps students develop a sustainable and positive approach to both research and life. Ultimately, our aim is to nurture future scientists and faculty members who understand the importance of work-life balance and who will carry forward this culture of empathy, wellness, and holistic growth in their own research groups and professional journeys.
